If your objective was to lobby big business and Government on behalf of the Freelancer community, then you possibly did a reasonable job of creating awareness, but with a big caveat. Was this being watched and listened to by your target audience?

I am a freelancer and I heard about this webcast via my 'freelancer' connections. Was it also promoted to big business and Government?

From my own point of view, I learned precious little from these videos, other than an opportunity to offer my skills and advice to one of the business owners featured. It was all "motherhood and apple pie" as far as I was concerned.

Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly support the concept of National Freelancers Day, and I shall be attending a local live event this evening, rather than going to one of my regular business groups. But I think you could better serve this community by being more pro-active than what appears to be just a lobbying group, a bit like a specialist chapter of the Federation for Small Businesses.

I am more than happy to continue any discussions on these topics.

I'm a freelancer and PCG Member - PCG commissioned me to produce the videos, so I'm obviously quite close to the subject matter. However, one of the things that really fired me up while I was doing the interviews was that, as Craig points out in a separate post on James Bellini's video, the concept of collaborative networks is being formally validated. Also, the fact that "small is beautiful" is now being publicly articulated by a range of industry commentators does help consolidate my own view of how to position myself: I don't need to grow into a large business, in terms of employing staff. Being an independent operator is something to be proud of because of the distinct advantages it brings to clients. All this may be obvious, but it's a lot more obvious when there are lots of other people saying it as well.

David, as a PCG member I'd be interested to hear what pro-active things you feel PCG should be doing, other than lobbying.

Working on a client site primarily amongst the client's employees but with very few independent contractors I have felt somewhat isolated but this video showed me that not only are there many like-minded freelance workers out there but also that there are clients who really do appreciate this method of working. Quite uplifting to hear such support!
