Celebrate National Freelancers Day in Watford

Jurys Inn, Watford, 23rd November from 6.15pm

Be part of and show your support for National Freelancers Day by joining fellow freelance consultants, interim managers and contractors at a special National Freelancers Day event  to be held at the Jurys Inn Hotel, Watford. 

There are many factors affecting freelance contractors, interims and consultants at the moment, it is a specialist area. with specific challenges. The current economic climate has thrown up a whole host of issues regarding planning for the future and the effective management of a freelance business.  The evening will include presentations from PCG Affiliates Wealth Matters, Baker Watkin and a leading Fund House as well as providing ample opportunity to debate and discuss the evolution of freelancing.

The format of the evening is as follows:

6.15 pm     Meet in the bar
6.45 pm     Welcome and introductions
6:50 pm     BNY Mellon Asset Management to speak about current economic conditions and macro market performance
7.10 pm     Wealth Matters - providing advice for contractors about how to arrange your finances, some new financial products specific to contractors and how to get money out of your business tax efficiently
7.30 pm     James Abbott of Baker Watkin -  focussing on latest updates on IR35 and current tax issues affecting contractors. James Abbott FCCA CTA qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant with Baker Watkin in 1998. Since then he has specialised in tax and became a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.  He became Baker Watkin's Tax Partner in 2006 and heads up their tax department providing a full range of tax advice to individuals, businesses and limited companies.  James is also accredited by the PCG under their “Accredited Accountant” scheme and deals with majority of the firm’s freelance businesses.
7.50 pm     Q and A on first 3 presentations
8.05 pm     National Freelancers Day: Open discussion about the future of freelancing. Run and compared by PCG Consultative Council Members Robert Sprigge and John Platten, evolving the themes of the day with an open discussion covering issues such as:

            • What freelancing is (or means to you).
            • Support systems in place for freelance businesses.
            • How freelance businesses can improve and evolve.
            • How technology is helping to shape the freelance sector
            • How businesses could better harness the UK freelance talent pool.
            • Why freelancing is vital to the UK economy and the potential for freelancing in the evolving business world.
            • The role of freelancing in the helping the UK out of the recession
            • The opportunities and challenges for freelance businesses in the current economic climate and beyond
